Next stop the island of Tenerife.

At least the weather had improved and it was lovely and warm.

I took a tour with the ship - I had been in Tenerife before so picked some things I hadnt seen before.

First stop the pyramids of Guimar. No one is really sure where these came from, but the museum and archeology was done by Tor Hyerdahl, who later sailed a raft across the atlantic.

Now that's proving a point!!

He thought that there were similarities to these pyramids and some found in South America, so determined that there must be a connection between the two civilizations.

The guide told us many interesting things about the pyramids and the theories surrounding them. They appear to have been made by sun worshippers, as once a year the sun shines through the neighbouring mountain and illuminates the ramp to the top. Similar to Newgrange in Ireland...

The grounds also had an amazing poisoned garden, full of plants you wouldn'e want to eat!!!

Strangely a lot were very familiar from my back yard!!

Then we visited a cathedral with a rather unfortunate depiction of a vision of the Virgin Mary.

It was said that some fishermen saw something rising from the sea, with blond hair and a dark complexion. The resulting recreated images are startling (to say the least) and for my giggling in the church at poor MAry, I felt obliged to buy a Holy medal and a set of rosary beads. Just for the good Karma...

Beautiful church tho, and well worth the visit.

The old town was just lovely to wander around, and of course I amnaged to squeeze in a sangria and tapas before returning to the ship.

Tenerife was definitely a 10/10.
